Group Project Proposal

Before attending University, the only understanding of what the everyday for a student would be I found through the media. TV Shows about drug-taking and partying. News reports about binge drinking, STDs and massive amounts of debt. These, and only these features appeared to be the foundation of every student’s typical day. It wasn’t until I actually started University that I realised, how poorly students can be represented. University is full of people of different ages, different life-styles and different backgrounds. People with different interests, aspirations, and who make different choices. The “student lifestyle” that I had been exposed too before, could not effectively represent what truly happens at University. At the very least, everyday life for most is just not that dramatic. Taking inspiration from Documentary films such as Life in a Day, my idea is to record one weekend from the point of view of multiple students. To show the aspects of everyday life which we all have in common, to contrast the ways in which we differ. The purpose of the short film is not too reject and deny any stereo-types students fall into, but to offer a more comprehensive and well-rounded view of the variety of student’s every day.
